AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep and Test
The Canine Good Citizen Prep Class prepares you and your dog to take the American Kennel Club’s CGC test, a certification reserved for dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. Each of the 10 steps in the CGC test examines a different skill that a well mannered dog should possess. All 10 steps will need to be passed during the same test to receive the CGC title. The CGC series includes three prep classes and one opportunity to take the AKC CGC test.
Prep sessions focus on the 10 steps of the CGC test:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
- Walking through a crowd

- Coming when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distraction
- Supervised separation
